This year Geckoella has been lucky enough to survey pristine habitats within ancient woodlands in the Mendips. Amongst the trees surveyors found a plethora of interesting and rare woodland flowers including Toothwort which is a parasitic plant often found on Hazel. This work was carried out for Natural England, providing data that helps inform management of National Nature Reserves such as Ebbor Gorge and Rodney Stoke.
Invertebrates are important to conserve and Geckoella has undertaken a range of valuable work in 2023. Senior Ecologist Joshua Butterworth surveyed for pollinators across several sites with invertebrate specialist Dave Boyce, including a new community orchard in Bristol for the West of England Community Pollinator Project. Joshua said “this was a fascinating project to be involved with, great data collected and a thrill to see such diversity already in this newly replanted area, benefiting pollinating species and giving local residents opportunities to access nature.
