Last Monday the team at Geckoella had a day away from field work to celebrate achieving highly commended in the CIEEM small business awards. The sun was out and they enjoyed a relaxing trip aboard The Duchess of Cocklemoor. More used to seeing the river Parrett from a kayake surveying for water vole, otter and aquatic flora; the ecologists were delighted to view the river from a different angle and in relative comfort. There were super views of the town of Langport and the river banks were teaming with flora and fauna. It was great to let the solar powered engine take the strain and just relax and enjoy the history and landscape (although Josh in particular couldn’t resist a bit of recreational botany during the trip). The boat, an old ferry, was converted to solar power, after its restoration by owner Ian Macnabe.

After a very pleasant hour or so gliding along the river we disembarked at Cocklemoor and hungrily strolled off to our booked table at The Kitchen at The Wharf in Langport. The Kitchen does great food, locally sourced and plenty of choice. A perfect end to a jolly good day.
