I’m Janatha Alvarez, Geckoella’s Office and Finance Manager. I joined Geckoella in October 2020 after working for a British Designer in Somerset for 16 years as their office and Finance Manager. Prior to that I was in London for 20 years in Investment banking. After moving to Somerset in 2003 I became more aware of the environment around me and when the opportunity came up to work with Geckoella it seemed like a natural step.
My role is incredibly varied and a typical day can involve anything from banking, team logistics, kit sorting and hotel bookings for the team. I also occasionally go out into the field with the team to see what the ‘work on the ground’ entails which has given me a greater understanding of the Ecology and Geology world.
I have recently completed an IOSH Managing Safely course so that I can be the first point of contact for all the Health and Safety requirements of the business. I also hold a ‘Mental Health First Aider’ certificate and am on hand for any team issues.
