A Day in The Life of Alison Jacobs

I’m Alison Jacobs, Geckoella’s Artist-in-Residence and Media Lead. My experience in design, marketing, illustration and geography plus my next door location in Studio9 at East Quay Watchet, mean I’m uniquely positioned to help Geckoella with social media, websites, communications etc. I collaborated with www.paperpixels.ink to help make the attractive and informative window display at Watchet Town Museum. I also help Geckoella support their community conservation projects like Watchet Hedgehogs maintaining their Website and designing their logo.

I love working ‘en plain air’ so when Geckoella was involved in extracting an exciting Ichthyosaurus from a local beach I jumped at the chance to go along and sketch whilst Geckoella carried out their very tricky procedure on a cold, damp Boxing Day!

Not shy of donning the high vis and safety boots I’m very happy to help out in the field when needed acting as a Health and Safety buddy for my fellow bat, invertebrate and ditch surveyors! If the survey is in daylight and time allows I will often try and record the day in my own way often using a drawing app on my mobile phone.

Geckoella has its HQ at the impressive East Quay building in Watchet and have a stunning and very large picture window looking out onto the marina. Not being exhibitionists, wanting a little privacy, yet wanting to celebrate the window, Geckoella commissioned me to come up with an environmentally friendly window decoration that could be changed each season. The solution was to make a chalk painting. This was so successful that East Quay adopted the idea for their own Christmas window displays. So keep an eye on the window, more new pictures coming soon.
