Geckoella have been hired as specialist consultants to advise on the cliff erosion at West Street beach, Watchet.

Everyone loves a walk on the beach during the Christmas and New Year holidays but this year Watchet residents, visitors, dog walkers and fossil hunters who enjoy exploring this popular beach are being reminded to stay well away from the cliffs which are at a high risk of collapse.

Geckoella has been undertaking regular drone surveys and monitoring of the West Street allotments and West beach cliff area through the summer. Since the last survey in November, the cliffs have become much more active and small rock falls are regular events.

Geckoella has advised the Town Council that major toppling events and a rotational slip and failure within the cliffs are likely to occur very soon (especially following periods of heavy rain and freezing frost/thaw action) and cliff collapses could happen with very little or no warning.
